Parade of Homes

For over 39 years, the Hickory & Catawba Valley HBA has showcased the finest new homes by the area's best builders in the Parade of Homes. The 2009 Parade was a great success and showcased 20 homes in our area. Information on the 2009 Parade homes and their builders is still available on our Parade of Homes web site.

We are now planning the next Parade of Homes to be held in the fall of 2010. If you are considering building/buying a new home or remodeling, you will not want to miss this event! Be on the lookout for more information about the 2010 Parade of Homes.

If you would like to participate in, advertise with, or sponsor the 2010 Parade of Homes, please contact the HBA office.

Education and Scholarships

The Hickory & Catawba Valley Home Builders Association believes in the importance of education which we support through scholarships, educational grants, and the Career Expo.

  • Robin L. Rollins Memorial Scholarship

Each year, The HBA awards scholarships to two area High School Seniors going on to college and entering a construction-related program of study. From among the applicants, we select the winners of the scholarship based on career objective, academic performance, contribution to the community, and personal indicators of success.

The 2009 Robin L. Rollins Memorial Scholarship recipients are Kongmeeng Her from Fred T. Foard High School and Chet Sigmon from Bandys High School. Chet received a 4-year scholarship and will be attending NC State where he will major in Engineering. Kongmeeng received the 2-year scholarship and will attend Catawba Valley Community College where he will major in Electrical Engineering.

The following are past recipients of the scholarships:

2008 Ashton Bowman and Matt Bowles

  • Vocational Education Grants

To help improve building-related vocational education in the community, the HBA awards a grant on a rotating basis to the vocational departments of the Newton Conover, Maiden, Hickory, Fred T. Foard, Bandys, and Alexander Central high schools.

  • Career Expo

Additionally, the HBA participates in the Catawba County Schools Career Expo Each fall. The Career Expo provides a unique environment for high school sophomores to learn about the many career paths open to them. It helps them make informed decisions about important educational choices for their junior and senior years and beyond.

Chet Sigmon, along with his parents David and Judy Sigmon, were recognized by HBA Presidet Rob Howard (pictured far right) at the Home Builders Association Annual Golf Classic on June 16th. Kongmeeng Her, not pictured, also received the 2009 Robin L. Rollins Memorial Scholarship.
